16 JUL

The gospel is a series of explanatory accounts and doctrines that chart the entire life of Jesus Christ whom we, Christians, believe died for our sins. Christian musicians advocate and proclaim the gospel through song, either in a studio recording or a live stage performance. A really spectacular live gospel performance is a praise-and-worship fest led by musicians who display admirable vocal prowess. That is what Gospel Explosion has set out to deliver this year.

It has always been our wish to organize a gospel event that will provide people with God-honoring music that promotes a sanctified, holy lifestyle, and encourages them in their walk with the Lord. The 2016 ANNUAL WINTER GOSPEL EXPLOSION is the fulfilment of that wish. This is an annual event wherein our ministry puts together a line-up of some of the country’s top gospel singers to give a special one-night-only performance, which will be an offering of both traditional and gospel music.

The event title, “Gospel Explosion,” is a reference to that intense burning excitement that God’s music gives both the singer and the listener. The idea is that, at this concert, the music will evoke in our patrons that innate urge to take off like a rocket and blast through the heavens above. The gospel concert, the first instalment of which is on 16 July 2016, will gain momentum with every passing year and will be one of the most important dates in the South African gospel music calendar.

This year’s line-up boasts formidable household names in South African gospel:

Living up to American gospel icon, Mahalia Jackson, after whom she was named, Mahalia Buchanan is a gifted vocalist and worship who gleaned her skills at Joyous Celebration.
Ayo Solanke is an energetic saxophonist whose stage dynamism has made him a sought-after gospel concert performer.
Lebo Sekgobela is a gospel singer whose voice thrillingly glides and swoops with jazzy dexterity.
Mmatema Moremi is known for the amazing work she did on Idols last year. This time, her fans will marvel at the gospel-style flourishes to her singing.
For traditional gospel music aficionados, we present Pastor Sipho Ngwenya, a gentle giant who commands a solid stage presence and reaches dizzy heights in vocal gymnastics.
The main act on the bill is none other than the universally-acclaimed gospel juggernaut, the anointed Pastor Benjamin Dube.

South African radio host Thami Ngubeni and actor Buyile Mdladla will be programme directors who will introduce the acts and ensure the smooth-running of the entire event.
